How Do I Set Up and Use myID?

What is MyID?

Last November, the Australian Government re-introduced MyID (formerly known as MyGovID).

MyID is a secure way to create a Digital ID to prove who you are when accessing Government agencies online, without needing separate passwords or having to repeatedly verify your identity.

MyGov, Services Australia (Centrelink) and ATO’s Online services for business all require you to use MyID when interacting with them online.

Although setup can take a little time to work through, once completed it makes accessing government services online much simpler and more secure. It’s also essential for accessing the Australian Business Register (ABR) and the Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM), which allows you to access online services on behalf of your business.

How do I setup MyID?

1. Download the MyID app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

    2. Enter your details: Email, password, full name, date of birth, etc.

      3. Verify your identity to the required level:

        • Basic: Limited services (myGov, ATO)
        • Standard: Required for ABR, RAM and most business services (requires two ID documents, e.g. passport and driver’s licence)
        • Strong: Required for services like Centrelink or applying for a TFN (requires passport, second ID and a one-off face check)

Setup of your MyID only has to be completed once, enabling you to access a wide range of online services.

Why do I need to access ABR and RAM?

          Australian Business Register (ABR)

The ABR is the official register of all Australian businesses. It enables you to manage your Australian Business Number (ABN) and keep your business details up to date.

          Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM)

RAM is a secure online platform that allows businesses to authorise trusted individuals (such as employees, agents and advisors) to act on their behalf when accessing government services. To enable BISCosgrove to act as your Authorised Tax Agent, you will need to grant us access through RAM. This authorisation allows us to manage relevant services on your behalf as required.

Access Requirements: To use ABR and RAM services, you must have a MyID with at least Standard identity strength, however a Strong identity level is preferred.

If you haven’t already, we encourage you to begin setting up your MyID as soon as possible. The process requires personal details and passwords that only you can provide, and is essential for access to a range of Government services.

By setting up your MyID now, you’ll not only be able to access the ABR and RAM with ease, but also make it easier for us to keep supporting your business seamlessly.
